What is taurine?
Taurine is a non-proteinogenic, sulfur-containing aminosulfonic acid. Taurine is similar to amino acids, but contains a sulfonic acid instead of a carboxyl group. Non-proteinogenic means that taurine is not incorporated into proteins. Taurine is classified as a semi-essential substance. This means that it must be partially produced by the body and partially absorbed externally. Taurine is produced in the body during the metabolism of the amino acids L-cysteine and L-methionine. The name taurine comes from the Greek word "taurus," meaning bull or ox. This is because taurine was first isolated from the bile of oxen. The chemical name is 2-aminoethanesulfonic acid.
Raab Taurine capsules contain 500 mg of vegan taurine per capsule. Taurine is an aminosulfonic acid that is also naturally produced in the body.
